The Webcam Anthology: RIV, the great Italian pioneer

Today, rather than focusing on a single camgirl, I’d like to talk about a site that has achieved remarkable and significant milestones over the years. Ragazzeinvendita deserves all the praise in the world for what it has managed to accomplish in Italy, a country where, as always, the adult entertainment industry faces significant challenges.
The story of RIV—as the site is known by this simple acronym—mirrors other stories in the adult industry and, in some ways, Italian history in general. How many geniuses have been born in Italy over the centuries? Countless, but they have always faced many difficulties in a conservative country where people fear the new. The adult industry has also moved forward thanks to the courage and initiative of visionary directors and producers who, often, had to find a foothold abroad to establish themselves in Italy. The same applies to RIV, which, of course, relies on a foreign server and has its registered office abroad. In Italy, it would risk ending up in court for aiding and abetting prostitution; Italy is a country where camgirls are equated with prostitutes. This has not prevented RIV from flourishing.
Launched in the early 2000s, it experienced extraordinary growth in the second half of that decade, reaching staggering numbers. It had—and still has today—a unique feature: a large public chat room where users can watch multiple girls via webcam and foster a sense of shared intimacy. At least that was the case until the girls were given the option to use their own private rooms. In any case, this element—which set RIV apart from giants like Livejasmin—was the secret to its success. The creation of a true community where sex was the driving force but ultimately felt like a normal chat. And then there was the option to purchase the girls’ contact information, including their phone numbers. Since these were non-professional girls—essentially the girls next door—it was a revolution.
RIV has undergone many design changes over the years; today it offers a streamlined, functional version with many services. While retaining the characteristic of the large public chat room, it is now more similar to the international webcam giants. This has allowed the Italian site to sit at the table with the big players, participate in international webcam industry events like the Bucharest Summit, and rank among the top 10 best camgirl sites on the web.
I discovered RIV in 2006, and for over five years, it was a daily ritual for me. Then I started visiting the site less frequently—not because of any issues with the site, which remains top-notch, but because my erotic curiosity led me to try out just about every camgirl site on the web. I still visit it from time to time. From 2006 to today, I’ve done over two thousand private shows on RIV; specifically, from 2008 to 2010, I was doing as many as three private shows a day. During that time, it had an insanely addictive hold on me—as soon as I logged in, I’d zone out and stay connected to RIV for days on end.
But that’s my story. A story that led me to discover RIV and perform private shows there, even with porn stars who were at the height of their fame at the time, such as Sofia Gucci and Gloria Domini, and with a girl who was unknown back then but destined to become a major star in the industry, like Valentina Nappi. She got her start on RIV.
Going back to what it represented, for me it remains a milestone, an example of Italian courage in a country that, behind its prudish facade, has countless consumers and customers of the adult industry. Proof that new, beautiful trees with strong roots can grow even in the forests of the conservative. And on our ‘The Webcam Anthology’ page, I’ve put together a compilation of cam2cam shows I did in the past on RIV, in one of the many old designs—which, honestly, was my favorite.
