Axel Braun Goes Mainstream: The Adult Legend Announces R-Rated Thriller "Trauma"

After 33 years of setting the gold standard in adult cinema, Axel Braun—the most awarded director in the history of the industry—is officially crossing over. Braun has announced his first R-rated feature film, a dark psychological thriller titled Trauma.

A Passion Project 20 Years in the Making

While Braun officially retired in 2023, his creative engines haven't slowed down.

  • The Long Game: Braun actually began writing the script for Trauma in 2004 but lacked the time to produce it while working full-time in adult.

  • Retired but Wired: Braun joked that as a "retired citizen," he no longer has to choose between sleeping and developing his passion projects.

  • The Legacy: Following in the footsteps of his father, pioneer Lasse Braun, Axel’s career spanned from the late '80s until his 2023 retirement.

The Casting Shock

Moving from the adult industry to the mainstream has already provided Braun with a bit of "culture shock" regarding the sheer volume of available resources.

  • Massive Interest: Once the casting notice went live on Breakdown Services and Actors Access, Braun received 10,500 submissions on the first day alone.

  • Hundreds More Daily: Submissions have continued to pour in at a rate of several hundred per day.

  • A Different World: Braun noted the stark contrast between this massive influx and the "very small talent pool" he navigated for three decades in the adult world.

The "Braun" Canvas

Axel credits his three decades in the adult industry for providing the financial freedom and the technical discipline required to "diversify and explore different kinds of stories on a larger canvas". For a director who has won more accolades than anyone else in the field, Trauma represents the ultimate evolution of a storied career.

This isn't just another director trying to "go legit." Axel Braun has always been a filmmaker first, and his move into R-rated psychological thrillers is a natural progression. If he brings even half of the production value he utilized for his award-winning parodies to Trauma, the mainstream world is in for a wake-up call.

In this post, however, we want to celebrate the Italian director’s remarkable career and his immense contribution to raising the bar for adult entertainment. We therefore present a scene he directed from “Avengers vs. X-Men XXX: An Axel Braun Parody,” released in 2013 by Vivid. The scene features two legendary performers: Dana Vespoli and Chanel Preston.
